Laura Kent Designs was created to give authors and publishers a way to visually express their stories before a single page is turned.
Rather than chasing trends or relying on genre formulas, each project is approached through concept, symbolism, atmosphere, and intentional visual storytelling.
The goal is not simply to create a cover that fits a category—but one that creates presence, curiosity, and emotional connection.
Intentional
Every element is chosen to support atmosphere, symbolism, and narrative tone.
Concept-Driven
Covers are built around visual storytelling rather than trend replication.
Cross-Genre
From thrillers to fantasy, each design adapts while maintaining a conceptual foundation.

My Background
Like many indie authors, my creative path began with a lifelong love of reading across genres. That passion eventually led to publishing independently—and, like many authors starting out, learning to navigate the realities of limited budgets and the pressure to do everything yourself.
What began as a practical attempt to learn Photoshop slowly evolved into something much larger. Through years of experimentation, courses, tutorials, and constant practice, design became less of a necessity and more of an obsession.
But throughout that process, one thing in particular always stood out within the publishing space: the expectation that covers should follow trends in order to succeed.
While genre expectations matter, the work that resonated most with me was always the work that created a feeling of recognition—the moment when a reader finishes a story, looks back at the cover, and suddenly understands something they hadn’t noticed before.
That idea continues to shape the approach behind my process today: concept-driven covers built not simply to fit within a market, but to create atmosphere, curiosity, and distinction within it.
The Goal
I believe a cover should do more than communicate genre. It should create curiosity, atmosphere, and emotional connection before the story even begins.
Whether designing for thriller, fantasy, romance, or something harder to define, my goal is always the same: to create visually intentional work that leaves a lasting impression.
